Voodoo

"Saut d’Eau (Haiti) --- For the past 150 years, rich, poor and middling Haitians have made the journey from around the country and even abroad to the tiny village Ville Bonheur and the nearby waterfall called Saut d'Eau, about 60 kilometers north of Port-au-Prince, to seek spiritual comfort, physical healing and answers to their prayers. Every 16th of July, the tiny rural community is transformed into a massive multi-religious fair and street party. Many poor people save everything that they can get around the year to be able to join the celebration that honors Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron saint of Ville Bonheur, and Erzuli Dantor, the goddess of love and the Voodoo. From time to time, bathers shout, suddenly apparently possessed by Erzuli. Singing, rolling their eyes, collapsing into the water or onto the rocks, they are seemingly oblivious to the swift current and jagged edges."
